Might be good if you live in the UK

There is some good advice in this book but nothing amazing. The author seemed like a nice person, for what that is worth. I wanted more info about how to deal with an infant and a two year old. The author did not seem to have to work and had a large support network, including a family-friendly government system, none of which I have. Of course if I had tons of family I would let them baby sit and of course if the U.S. government mandated maternity leave or in-house nurse consultations or any of the other services mentioned in this book I would take advantage. Still looking for a good book more applicable to my situation but the only other one I found was also written by someone in the UK ("The Need to Know Guide to Life With a Toddler and a Newborn: How to Prepare..."by
Nicola Cooper-Abbsand) had even less info (and it was really short).

Great Book Full of Useful Tips

This is the second book I purchased looking for some guidance and tips on transitioning from having one child in our family to two and it is great! Lots of helpful tips and realistic information about how your family dynamic will change and what steps you can take while pregnant and after delivery to help your older child/ren with the transition and to generally make things run smoother in your family. Love this book!

As a mom about to embark on the life adventure with a toddler and a newborn, I was looking for some helpful advice and reassurance about what this change would be like. Ms. Edwards is very positive and includes quotes from other parents of 2. The only somewhat downside to this book is that it's written for a British audience. I plan to share this book with friends expecting their second child.

Rodney Bowsher writes poetry, short stories and memoirs from the tranquil surroundings of his Devon cottage at the foot of the Raddon Hills. He is a regular performer at Taking the Mic sessions in Exeter and contributes poems to The Brooke, his village magazine. His work can also be seen on Raddon Lines, a local literary site at www.raddonlines.co.uk He believes his writing has been informed by first-hand experience in a variety of jobs. He has been a soldier, musician, salesman, mini-cab driver, retail assistant manager, mature student, bookseller and primary schoolteacher. His hobbies have included keyboard jazz, golf, sea-fishing, watching horse-racing, and clay-pigeon shooting. Now retired, he is drawing on his past, to 'empty the bucket' and further develop his creative writing skills. His ambitions are simple: he hopes readers will enjoy his work.

Poignant and wry

This poet 's wry and occasionally cheeky observations underpin a mature understanding of life: both the connections and the apart-ness of human interactions, and the odd bits of memory that resonate in later years ("Photographic Memory," "Long Ago"). Some are simply done, but their effect remained with me long after reading them. Mr. Bowsher is skilled at capturing and savoring life's simple pleasures. Well worth a read.

Written specifically for the Sony SLT-A77! Although they share some features, the new Sony SLT-A77 camera is very different from its cousin, the SLT-A65.  That's why I decided it was important to write this book, dedicated exclusively to the more advanced A77 model, rather than try to lump the two into a single book.  Wouldn't you rather have a book written specifically for your camera, describing its controls, menus, and features, instead of a hodge-podge that attempts to cover both?
 
For example, the Sony SLT-A77 has two control dials, a joystick-like controller, a top panel LCD, and a much more sophisticated autofocus system than the A65.  It boasts an AF fine-tune system,  flash sync socket, higher flash sync speed, and other features not found in the A65.  Clearly, the A77 is an enthusiast's camera, and deserves a book written for more advanced photographers like you.

But what if you're not an enthusiast -- but hope to become one, or simply want to take better pictures?  In that case, you really need this book written specifically for your camera to show exactly how to use every feature and option of the A77.  If you're in love with photography, but so far haven't been in love with learning to use cameras, let me help you get the most from your A77.

My Sony SLT-A77 Guide to Digital Photography is divided into four parts.   Part I, "Getting Started with your Sony SLT-A77" includes three chapters that will help you set up your camera, start shooting great pictures and movies in minutes, and explain each control, button, and dial, and how to use them. I guide you through every menu option and offer advice on what each does -- or does not do -- and when you should, or should not, use a particular setting.  Rather than simply re-hash the Sony manual, I provide a wealth of useful tips. 

Part II, "Beyond the Basics," has three chapters that show you how to use the A77's amazing exposure modes, including Sweep Panorama and 3D Sweep Panorama. There's an entire chapter on using the A77's lightning-fast autofocus with 19 focus points (including 11-cross type sensors) to get sharp images every time.  I include a focus chart you can use to eliminate front- or back-focus problems with the A77's fine-tuning feature. You'll find a chapter on advanced shooting techniques, including stack focus, and working with GPS, WiFi, smart phones and tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire.

In Part III, "Advanced Tools"  The A77's translucent mirror technology takes you to the next level in movie-making, and I've written a full chapter on the camera's video features, with plenty of shooting tips for those new to movie shooting.  Another chapter shows you how to choose and use lenses, with an analysis and review of the most important lenses available for the A77, and there's a chapter on working with available light and flash.

Read Part IV, "Enhancing Your Experience," to pick up tips for choosing software for  your A77, and a chapter on troubleshooting and maintaining your camera.  The software advice is strictly an overview; I don't pad this book out with Photoshop how-to lessons that show you how to correct mistakes you made while shooting. This entire book is dedicated to helping you get the shot you want in the camera.

SLT-A77/David Busch

As a novice in the SLR/SLT camera world I went to a camera store to enter the expanded world of photography. I was convinced the A77 was the first and last camera I would need. When I got the camera home holy cow it was a lot more complicated than I thought. It takes awesome pics but I was using about 1% of its capabilities. I thought I needed much more info than what came with the camera. I purchased David Busch's book and as I read it in plain English it makes the functions easy to understand and I am beginning to use more and more of the cameras capabilities. Ii highly recommend this book for anyone that has the A77.

Terrific guide to the new Alpha 77 camera. Every function described in detail and illustrated with full color large and easy to read screen shots and sample photos. It would be a pity to purchase this fine camera and not know how to use its many features which are not at all obvious, especially to users accustomed to the Canon EOS functions and menu. One section to get you stared with setup and the basics. Followed by chapters covering each feature and function in full detail. If you're switching from CANON EOS to Sony Alpha, get this book.
